Trail Details

Welcome to the Cottonwood Loop Trail at Tolt-MacDonald Park! This beautiful trail is perfect for families looking for a fun outdoor adventure. The trail is approximately 1.9 miles long and takes hikers through a lovely forested area with scenic views of the Snoqualmie River.

As you start your journey, you’ll cross a suspension bridge that spans the Snoqualmie River. Check out the monoscope looking south towards the double suspension bridge along Tolt Hill Road.  During the fall, you’ll see salmon running upriver.  My kids love racing sticks off the bridge and we often spend a large portion of time hanging out on the bridge.

As you continue along the trail, you’ll pass through groves of cottonwood trees, which provide plenty of shade on hot summer days. You’ll also come across a few spots where you can take a break and enjoy the view of the river.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the trail markers, which will help guide you along the way. The trail is well-maintained and easy to follow, but it’s always good to stay on the designated path. Keep your eyes open for wildlife like birds, squirrels, and banana slugs! The western portion of the trail winds gently uphill, but don’t worry, with encouragement it’s not too steep for little legs.

At the end of the loop, you’ll come back to the starting point where there are picnic tables and benches. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a snack and rest your legs before heading back home.

Overall, the Cottonwood Loop Trail at Tolt-McDonald Park is a great choice for families looking for a fun and easy hike with beautiful scenery. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and be sure to pack out any trash. Happy hiking!
